Subject: Joint Work Session Meeting Regarding the City Center Project
On Tuesday, December 4, 2012, the City Council and Planning Commission will hold a joint work
session meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to bring a conclusion to the hard work that the City
Council and Planning Commission has put forth over the past two years in establishing a vision and
determining a course of action for the City Center project.
At the November 7 Planning Commission meeting, the city's planning consultant, Alan Brixius,
presented several proposed changes to the Comprehensive Plan and the Zoning Code in order to
facilitate a unified vision for the City Center area. The proposals included:
1. An amendment to the Proposed Land Use Plan to show the City Center District super block
as mixed land use to facilitate the land use recommendations of the Vision Study.
2. An amendment to the mixed use land use description to formally adopt the Vision Study as
an appendix to the Comprehensive Plan and outline the Vision Study goals within the
Comprehensive Plan; and an amendment expanding the Commercial Redevelopment Target
Area map to include the City Center District super blocks.
3. An amendment to Planning District 11 language to include recommendations that are
consistent with the Vision Study goals; and amendments to the Planning District 11
Generalized Land Use Plan.
4. Updates to the New Hope Design Guidelines, which take the language from the City Center
District draft ordinance and blend them with the existing design guidelines.
5. An amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to include the draft Section 4 -17 CC, City Center
District Ordinance.
The joint work session will act as a final review of these proposed changes prior to a formal action taken
by the City Council at a future meeting. The work session will be held in the Park and Recreation
Conference Room. Please bring with you the November 7 Planning Commission packet for reference.
