110623 HRC MinutesCITY OF NEW HOPE 4401 XYLON AVENUE NORTH NEW HOPE, MINNESOTA 55428 Human Rights Commission November 6, 2023 Regular Meeting City Hall CALL TO ORDER Chair Donna Meyer called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Kendra Curry Allison Isenberg Matthew London Donna Meyer Trista Rehnke Diane Ruiz Absent: Kaamil Hassan Maria Leon Mindy London Ephraim Uwalaka City Liaison: Chief Tim Hoyt (absent) Brad Kallio, New Hope Crime Prevention Officer Guests: None AGENDA APPROVAL Commissioner Isenberg made a motion to accept the November 6, 2023, agenda, seconded by Commissioner Curry. All voted in favor. MINUTES APPROVAL Commissioner Curry made a motion to accept the October 2, 2023, minutes, seconded by Commissioner Ruiz. All voted in favor. OPEN FORUM Membership - Commissioner Uwalaka has moved out of New Hope therefore he will be leaving the HRC. DISCUSSION ITEMS AND REPORTS HRC Membership - Commission will have two openings in 2024. Up to two positions can be filled by student members. - Community members are always welcome to attend meetings. - Please let the city know if guests will be attending a meeting. 2023 Subcommittee Updates - Community Conversations – Lead Donna Meyer - No update this month. - Sunnyside Park Sponsorship – Lead Trista Rehnke - Sponsorship requires cleaning the park 3 times per year. - 2023 cleanings – May 20th, August 19th, October 22nd - Outreach – Lead Matthew London - No update this month. - Colors of the World – Lead Mindy London - Trunk or Treat event was a success despite the rain. There was a good turnout. 3 of the 5 schools submitted pictures. - Hispanic Heritage Celebration – Lead Diane Ruiz - No update this month. HRC Officer Positions - Nominations and elections will be held in December. New officers will start in January 2024. - Chair Meyer will send an email to the group that details each of the officer position duties. - Suggestion to have a more defined succession plan so people can plan and commit to the time required. Example – CoChair for one year and then takes the Chair position the next year. - Outreach team will ask Beth to promote the HRC openings. Upcoming Meeting Dates: - 2023: 12/4 - 2024: 1/8/24 (meeting moved to second Monday due to the first Monday being a holiday) 2/5, 3/4, 4/1, 5/6, 6/3, no July meeting, 8/5, 9/2 (Labor Day – meeting needs to move), 10/7, 11/4, 12/2 NEW BUSINESS None COMMUNICATION & INFORMATION SHARING Toy Fest - Allison and Mike Isenberg will be hosting their annual toy drive, Toy Fest on December 1 starting at noon through the evening of December 2. Toys are donated to Blue Santa, NEAR and PRISM. Stop by with a toy and enjoy some food. Empty Bowls - March 19th at Cooper High School - Fundraiser benefiting NEAR and PRISM. Speeding - Chair Meyer expressed a complaint about people speeding on 49th Ave near the New Hope Ice Arena. NEXT MEETING The next meeting is Monday, December 4th at 7:00 pm. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Curry made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Commissioner Matthew London. All voted in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 7:33 pm.
