CALL TO ORDER Chair Donna Meyer called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

AGENDA APPROVAL Commissioner Isenberg made a motion to accept the May 1, 2023,
agenda, seconded by Commissioner Mindy London. All voted in favor.
MINUTES APPROVAL Commissioner Mindy London made a motion to accept the April 3, 2023,
minutes, seconded by Commissioner Isenberg. All voted in favor.
OPEN FORUM Golden Valley Pride
- Brookview Park, June 10th 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
City Communications
- Officer Kallio relayed a message from Beth regarding
communications through the city pathways. Items need to be
submitted several months in advance. Items will be edited to keep
the voice and content consistent.
Diversity Calendar
- May – Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Older Americans
Month and Jewish American Heritage Month
- June – Pride Month (LGBTQIA+)
- Earth Day 2024 – highway clean up?
Broadway Village
- Volunteers needed: looking for 5 – 7 older students who can come
and help residents with their phones.
- Commissioner Matthew London will check at school and pass this
along because kids do need service hours.
School Events
- Powwow at Armstrong on May 6th.
- Cinco de Mayo at Cooper on May 4th.
- Relay for Life on May 6th.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
AND REPORTS HRC Membership
- Commission is full at this time.
- Community members are always welcome to attend meetings.
Please let the city know if guests will be attending a meeting.
2023 Subcommittee Updates
- Community Conversations – Lead Donna Meyer
- Events will be 5:00 – 8:00 pm. June 20th, July 12th, August
29th.
- Team met to plan events. Will have a handout specific to
the topic and a kids table.
- Want to move June to Civic Park. Brad will check to see if it
is available.
- Sunnyside Park Sponsorship – Lead Trista Rehnke
- Must clean the park 3 times per year.
- Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 am. Meet at the north end of
the park by the playground equipment.
- Terra Linda and the Jaycee parks are both unsponsored.
- Outreach – Lead Matthew London
- Team will meet soon. Can plan now that we have the
update from Beth regarding communications.
- Colors of the World – Lead Mindy London
- Team hasn’t met yet. Gathering information and will set up
assignments.
- City Day tentatively set for October 26th. Plan to align event
with this one.
- Hispanic Heritage Celebration – Lead Diane Ruiz
- Commissioner Ruiz was absent. No update.
Fundraising – Lead Kaamil Hassen
- This is not a possibility right now because the infrastructure
is not there. It will not be a priority for 2023.
2023 Meeting Dates:
- 2023: 5/1, 6/5, 8/7, 9/6, 10/2, 11/6, 12/4; No July meeting
- September meeting will be Wed, 9/6 due to Labor Day.
- Chair Meyer will miss the June 5th meeting.
NEW BUSINESS None
COMMUNICATION &
INFORMATION SHARING Plant Sale at the Golf Course
- May 13th, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm.
City Updates – Mayor Hemken
- New City Manager will be selected soon. Interviews have been
scheduled with top candidates.
JCPP
- Question regarding how they will interact with the HRC. Brad will
connect with them and start the conversation on how to collaborate.
NEXT MEETING The next meeting is Monday, June 5, 2023 at 7:00 pm.
ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Curry made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded
by Commissioner Leon. All voted in favor. The meeting was adjourned
at 7:43 pm.
