CALL TO ORDER Chair Donna Meyer called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.

AGENDA APPROVAL Commissioner Isenberg made a motion to accept the January 9, 2023,
agenda, seconded by Commissioner Ruiz. All voted in favor.
MINUTES APPROVAL Commissioner Matthew London made a motion to accept the December
5, 2022, minutes, seconded by Commissioner Mindy London. All voted in
favor.
OPEN FORUM: Ridwell
- Company that recycles items that are no longer needed.
- Information was in the InTouch newsletter.
Kaamil Hassan
- Attending the meeting to learn more about the HRC. Recently
moved back. Was living in Toronto and focused on the housing
crisis there. Going to school at the U of M.
Aiysha Mustapha
- Shout out to Brad Kallio for coordinating gifts for families at the last
minute. Thank you for the compassion.
Blue Santa Recap
- 2022 was two times bigger than before. Around 50 families were
included. The bad weather didn’t stop the fun! It is a lot of work but
totally worth it.
- Huge thank you to the Isenberg Toy Fest which provided donations.
- Huge thank you to Value Merchandise Inc. they collect toys
throughout the year.
Broadway Village Chili Cookoff
- Monday, January 30th at 12:00 pm (noon)
- Judges will be Brad Kallio, Tim Hoyt, Kathi Hemken
- Please come join the event and try all the chili!
Community Conversations in 2023
- Brad Kallio asked Parks & Rec for open dates for the summer. Civic
Center Park by City Hall is available most Tuesdays. Need to
reserve soon or they will be gone. He will lock in some dates for the
HRC.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
AND REPORTS HRC Membership
- The HRC has 3 open seats on the commission. Up to one
additional seat can be filled by a High School student from ISD
281 schools. Applications are available from the city for anyone
interested.
- Maria Leon has filled out an application.
HRC By-Laws
- By-Laws were reviewed and edits discussed.
- Secretary Rehnke will make the edits and resend the document to
everyone to review again.
- Vote on the edits will be taken at the February meeting. Changes
then need to go to the City Council for approval.
2023 Planning Ideas
- Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15 – 10/15)
- Festival at city hall with music, food, art, information
- Book by Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor, “Just
Ask! Be Different, Be Brave, Be You”
- Lesson plan K – 5
- Community Conversation
- Expand to other parks to cover all areas of the city
- Partner with other cities
- Cultural Food Truck Festival
- Juneteenth Education and Celebration
- Marketing via city resources (Facebook, Website, InTouch, CCX,
etc.) to include the Diversity Calendar
- Volunteer opportunities for the HRC
- Sunnyside Park Sponsorship
- The Food Group
- Diversity Calendar
- Each month invite different groups from the community to
connect with the HRC at a meeting
- People & Places of New Hope, aligned with the Diversity Calendar
- Movie in the Park for Kids or at New Hope Cinema Grill
- Challenge with all city Commissions or other city’s HRCs, i.e.
volunteer
- Fundraising
- Social Media expansion, engage with the community, provide
informational posts.
- Partner with the School District on an event for students, i.e. DEI
- First Time Homeowner seminar
- Information on affordable housing in New Hope
- Education on the Census Data
- Partner with ACER, Inc. regarding housing
- Use TikTok
- Use CCX to do a “Human of NY” type idea
- Conversation event with the Police Department, not have the PD
staff be in full uniform
- World Festival Event in August
- What the County Could Do For You post, partnering with Crystal
- Expungement Resources with Kathleen Stewart, County Attorney
- Colors of the World
- Apply for Grant for funding per City Councilman Jon Elder

- HRC is scheduled to present at the Feb 21st work session at 6:30
pm.

- February 8th, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
- Fair School in Crystal (Adair & 39th)
Inter School Council Meeting
- January 12th, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
- Virtual and in-person at 4148 Winnetka Ave
NEXT MEETING The next meeting is Monday, February 6, 2023 at 7:00 pm.
ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Curry made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded
by Commissioner Ruiz. All voted in favor. The meeting was adjourned at
9:43 pm.
