Regular Meeting City Hall
CALL TO ORDER Chair Meyer called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

AGENDA APPROVAL Commissioner Curry made a motion to accept the September 6, 2022,
agenda, seconded by Commissioner Snabes. All voted in favor.
MINUTES APPROVAL Commissioner Curry made a motion to accept the August 1, 2022,
minutes, seconded by Commissioner Snabes. All voted in favor.
OPEN FORUM Aiysha Mustapha
- Aiysha attended one of the Community Conversations events over
the summer.
- Provided the HRC with a Diversity Calendar and supporting
documentation. We will incorporate this information with our agenda
and events throughout the year.
- Aiysha currently holds various events throughout the year in her
position. Some are virtual and some are in person.
- She can spread the word about the open Student Seats on the HRC.
- The HRC explained the essay contest we had coordinated with the
schools in the past. Aiysha will connect with the school leaders to
see if this is an opportunity again.
Water Supply
- Q: How safe is a water supply and what are the back up plans?
- A: We buy our water from Minneapolis, it is stored in the 2 water
towers. The city also has 2 back up wells that could be used on a
short term basis if needed. The wells are checked on a regular
basis.
League of Women Voters
- Looking for volunteers on September 20th for voter registration.
Election Day Volunteers
- Contact Val Leone at the city for volunteer opportunities
Blue Santa
- Every year the police department gets lists for families, buys and
wraps gifts ahead of time and then holds an event with Santa,
games, food, etc.
- They buy for approximately 25 kids.
Mayor & Free Books for Kids
- February is I Love To Read month.
- Mayor Hemken hands out books to kids at the Farmer’s Market each
weekend.
- Q: Would the Mayor be willing to read in the schools?
- A: Yes
DISCUSSION ITEMS
AND REPORTS HRC Membership
- The HRC has four open seats on the commission. Two seats can be
filled by High School Students.
- Applications are available from the city.
2022 Sub-Committees
- Expectations
o Sub-committees are expected to meet throughout the month,
outside of the regular HRC meeting. The Lead will report
back at the HRC meeting.
- Colors of the World / Dream Big (Donna Meyer – Lead)
o Letter for the student and the teachers have been written
and printed. Packets will be delivered soon.
o Classroom packets contain: letters, a book for the
classroom (Everybody Let’s Get Cooking by Paulette and
Harper Bonneur), box of crayons for each child, box of
crayons for the classroom.
o Open House on October 25th at City Hall from 4:00 – 7:00
pm. Decoration and prep the day before.
- Community Conversations (Donna Meyer – Lead)
o Summer series in Civic Park was successful.
o Team will debrief, September 12th at 6:00 pm via Zoom.
- Sunnyside Park & Volunteer Coordination (Trista Rehnke – Lead)
o Park cleaned on May 21st and August 14th.
o Next scheduled park clean up date - Saturday, October 15th
at 10:00 am. (Oct 22nd as back up date if needed.)
- Marketing (Allison Isenberg – Lead)
o Working to complete the Spotlight Award submission form.
Once complete, send to Val to see who should review.
o Winners would be recognized at a City Council meeting.
o Adding DE&I language to the city website, connect with
Chief Hoyt.

- September 13th at 4:45 pm.

COMMUNICATION &
INFORMATION SHARING Retirement
- Marti Williams retired from the New Hope Police Department. Party
at Frankie’s had a great turnout.
New Hope Crime Prevention Fund Golf Event
- September 30th at New Hope Golf Course
- Night Golf event
- Officer Kallio is coordinating if you want to attend or volunteer.
NEXT MEETING The next meeting is October 3rd at 7:00 pm.
