060622 HRC MinutesCITY OF NEW HOPE 4401 XYLON AVENUE NORTH NEW HOPE, MINNESOTA 55428 Human Rights Commission June 6, 2022 Regular Meeting In Person - City Hall CALL TO ORDER Chair Meyer called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Kendra Curry Allison Isenberg Mindy London Donna Meyer Trista Rehnke Zachary Snabes Absent: Danielle Saima Jennifer Toavs City Liaison: Chief Tim Hoyt (absent) Guests: Kathi Hemken, Mayor Brad Kallio, Officer Community Services AGENDA APPROVAL Commissioner Isenberg made a motion to accept the June 6, 2022, agenda, seconded by Commissioner London. All voted in favor. MINUTES APPROVAL Commissioner London made a motion to accept the May 2, 2022, minutes, seconded by Commissioner Isenberg. All voted in favor. OPEN FORUM PRIDE - June is Pride Month. DISCUSSION ITEMS AND REPORTS HRC Membership - Jennifer Toavs has submitted her resignation from the HRC. Her schedule does not allow her to attend meetings and participate. We will miss her and her contributions. - The HRC has three open seats on the commission. - Brad will let Val know of the open spots. 2022 Sub-Committees - Expectations o Sub-committees are expected to meet throughout the month, outside of the regular HRC meeting. The Lead will report back at the HRC meeting - Colors of the World / Dream Big (Donna Meyer – Lead) o Team hasn’t met yet. No update. o Brad can help with school contacts. o Kendra will join this committee since Jen has left. - Community Conversations (Donna Meyer – Lead) o Events scheduled for Civic Center Park on June 13 (Mon), July 12 (Tues) and August 9 (Tues). o HRC members should be there 5:00 – 9:00 pm. Event will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the pavilion area. o The police department will attend and provide BBQ. o Chair Meyer will have flyers for the group. - Sunnyside Park & Volunteer Coordination (Trista Rehnke – Lead) o Park clean up #1 – Saturday, May 21st at 10:00 am. o Scheduled next park clean up dates – Sunday August 14th at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 15th at 10:00 am. (Oct 22nd as back up date if needed.) - Marketing (Allison Isenberg – Lead) o City Council has adopted the Proclamation for Juneteenth. o Working on the HRC Spotlight of the Quarter questions and interview format. Possible plaque for city call, ceritifcate for the recipient. o Working on t-shirts for the HRC. HRC members would pay for them individually. Need city logo artwork. If that is not available, then we will change the format . o July 8th is the Crime Prevention Golf Tournament (fundraiser), starts at 12:30 pm. Volunteers needed, connect with Brad Kallio. 2022 Meeting Dates: - July mtg, 8/1, 9/6 (Tues), 10/3, 11/7, 12/5 - Pool party at Kendra’s after the park clean up on August 14th. NEW BUSINESS City Manager Position - Chief Hoyt is now the Acting City Manager. August 15th will be the review when the Council and Chief Hoyt will determine if it is working and should continue or fill the position. If Chief Hoyt fills the position, then the Chief of Police position will be backfilled. Commissioner Jeff Lunde - Chair Meyer met with Commissioner Lunde and Councilman Mike Isenberg. Commissioner Lunde is working on a variety of community initiatives They are working to add mental health services to 911 calls. He will connect the HRC with diverse communities and cultural events.
