CALL TO ORDER Chair Meyer called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

AGENDA APPROVAL Commissioner Curry made a motion to accept the January 6, 2020,
agenda, seconded by Commissioner Rehnke. All voted in favor.
MINUTES APPROVAL Commissioner Curry made a motion to accept the December 2, 2019
minutes, seconded by Commissioner Rehnke. All voted in favor.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
AND REPORTS Complete Count Committee
- Jean Heyer from Hennepin County Community Engagement
attended meeting.
o They are holding a meeting on January 23, 2020, from 12:00
– 2:30 pm at Golden Valley Library, city contacts will be
invited to attend.
o Hennepin County has 1.2 million people, they anticipate
approximately 20% will not be counted.
o County can help CCC to reach historically undercounted
people.
o Why the census matters - Federal dollars, per person, per
year - $2800.
o For 2010 census, Federal government spent $13 - $14 B to
reach people. For 2020 census, the budget is 50% less.
The focus is now on a more local level to get the word out.
o Census is hiring now, $27.50 per hour in Hennepin County.
Can work 5 – 40 hours per week. Will be hiring 8,000
people to be census takers. Go to census2020.gov to apply.
o MN State Demographer also has resources that may be
beneficial to the CCC to help identify undercounted areas.
o They are also hiring Affinity Specialists – Spanish speaking,
Somali, etc.
o Base Camp site – shared resources and information online.
Information will be sent to CCC city contact, Jeff Alger.
- CCC gear ordered from merchandise store with grant money have
arrived (yard signs). Signs will be distributed to be put out in March.
- Remainder of grant money will be used to include fliers in utility bills.
Fliers were selected. Mayor Hemken will provide city with the fliers
and request they be sent out.
- Mayor Hemken will be going to Broadway Village Apartments on
January 9, 2020. She will also contact Ironwood and Compass Point
Apartments.
- Mayor Hemken will reach out to St. Therese, Northridge and
Ambassador care facilities to speak to residents and employees.
- Mayor Hemken will provide census information and signs to post to
other city commissions, Planning Commission and Citizen Advisory
Commission.
- Mayor Hemken has been on CCX speaking about the census, she
will do this again.
- Commissioner Curry will start to contact other larger apartment
complexes. She will forward some contact information to
Commissioner Rehnke and Chair Meyer to assist.
Shop with a Cop Recap
- Event was held on December 11, 2019. 10 kids shopped with the
police and the event was a success.
Work Session/Council Appearance Recap
- Commissioners Curry, Rehnke, and Burckhardt attended the work
session on December 16, 2019.
- Commissioner Curry delivered the presentation to the council and
mayor.
Human Rights Commission Membership
- Chief Fournier will have the HRC member names updated on city
website.
- HRC open positions are posted online and being advertised.

SHARING Police Awards Ceremony
- January 27, 2020 at 7:00 pm in City Council Chambers.
Next Meeting
- The next meeting is Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 7:00 pm.
(Meeting was moved from Monday, February 3, 2020, due to HRC
members being out of town the first two weeks in February.)
ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Rehnke moved to end to the meeting, seconded by
Commissioner Curry. All voted in favor. The meeting was adjourned at
8:15 p.m.
