Movie in the Park
Smoke alarms are proven to save
lives. West Metro Fire-Rescue Dis-
trict (WMFRD) has responded to
several fi res in which smoke alarms
have alerted the residents to a fi re,
the residents called 911 and WMFRD
was able to extinguish the fi re while
it was still small, resulting in mini-
mal damage.
Unfortunately, WMFRD has also
responded to several fi res where
there were no working smoke alarms.
Th ese fi res were not detected early,
resulting in catastrophic damage and
deaths.
Here are some smoke alarm safety
tips to consider:
• Install smoke alarms in every
bedroom, the hallways near bed-
rooms and on every level of the
residence.
• Do not remove the batteries in
your smoke alarms because they
sound when cooking. Instead,
consider relocation of the alarms,
installing a diff erent type of
alarm, cleaning your oven and
providing kitchen ventilation.
All these items will minimize
the alarms from sounding while
cooking.
• Test your smoke alarms and
change the batteries when you
change your clocks back from
daylight saving time in the fall.
• Replace your smoke alarms every
ten years.
If you need smoke alarms, or as-
sistance installing a smoke alarm,
contact Deputy Fire Marshal Shelby
Wolf at swolf@westmetrofi re.com or
763.230.7006.
Safety Tip of the
Month: Smoke Alarms
Fall is typically the best time of the
year to play golf. Th e weather is nor-
mally sunny, warm, less humid and
the conditions of the golf course are
the best of the year. So come on out
and enjoy your New Hope Village
Golf Course, which is a great par 3
golf course! After your round, relax
and sip on your favorite beverage on
the new patio while enjoying a beau-
tiful fall day.
