031020 HRC MinutesCITY OF NEW HOPE 4401 XYLON AVENUE NORTH NEW HOPE, MINNESOTA 55428 Human Rights Commission March 10, 2020 Regular Meeting Conference Room CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Curry called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Kendra Curry Trista Rehnke Heaven Shaw Absent: Donna Meyer City Liaison: Chief Tim Fournier Guests: Mayor Kathi Hemken Kristine Wehrkamp, Executive Director Robbinsdale Area Schools Heather Fruen AGENDA APPROVAL Commissioner Rehnke made a motion to accept the March 10, 2020, agenda, seconded by Commissioner Shaw. All voted in favor. MINUTES APPROVAL Commissioner Shaw made a motion to accept the January 30, 2020 minutes, seconded by Commissioner Rehnke. All voted in favor. DISCUSSION ITEMS AND REPORTS Complete Count Committee - Kristine Wehrkamp, Executive Director Robbinsdale Area Schools, provided an update on their status. o Multi-district meeting will happen soon, sending a delegate to the meeting, will provide update next month. o Flyers have been sent out via Peach Jar. Flyers have gone out multiple times to all families. o They are tabling at conferences. o Information will be included in the Friday, Principal communication which will provide information to parents and students. - Multifamily Access Ordinance: o Ordinance was passed at the city council meeting on February 24, 2020. - Census information has been posted on Next Door site, city Facebook pages. - Yard signs: o Need permission to place sign and note when you will return to pick it up again. Keep a list of where signs were placed. o Chair Meyer has signs to be used. - Information Meetings: o Mayor Hemken is setting up meetings at Adult Academic Program on 3/12 and Chardon Court on 3/25. Meyer Hemken completed meetings at the Sr. Center and Classrooms. o Commissioner Rehnke has called the larger apartment buildings on her list and most have been very responsive in allowing flyers to be dropped off and/or signs to be placed. o Commissioner Curry is working on calling her list. o Look at community rooms to use for future Sweet Blackberry events while at the facilities. Human Rights Commission Membership - HRC open positions are posted online and being advertised. - Talk about membership when out for Complete Count Committee events. - Commissioner Shaw is continuing to search for possible student members and regular commissioner members. Sunnyside Park Clean-Up - HRC is committed to cleaning the park 3 times per year. - Spring clean-up is scheduled for Sunday, March 29th at 9:00 am, weather cooperating. New Hope Farmer’s Market - HRC has set up a table at the market in years past to talk to the community and provide information about HRC and upcoming events. - Commissioner Rehnke will reach out to Farmer’s Market staff to see if community tables will be available again this summer. NEW BUSINESS None COMMUNICATION & INFORMATION SHARING PRISM Van Tour - Friday, March 20, 8:00 am – 10:30 am in the parking lot of Frankie’s Pizza. They are looking to collect donations of food, diapers, cleaning products, etc. NEXT MEETING The next meeting is Wednesday April 8th, 2020 at 7:00 pm.
