013020 HRC MinutesCITY OF NEW HOPE 4401 XYLON AVENUE NORTH NEW HOPE, MINNESOTA 55428 Human Rights Commission January 30, 2020 Regular Meeting Police Conference Room CALL TO ORDER Chair Meyer called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Kendra Curry Donna Meyer Trista Rehnke Absent: Heaven Shaw Guests: Chief Tim Fournier Mayor Kathi Hemken Kristine Wehrkamp, Executive Director Robbinsdale Area Schools AGENDA APPROVAL Commissioner Curry made a motion to accept the January 30, 2020, agenda, seconded by Commissioner Rehnke. All voted in favor. MINUTES APPROVAL Commissioner Curry made a motion to accept the January 6, 2020 minutes, seconded by Commissioner Rehnke. All voted in favor. DISCUSSION ITEMS AND REPORTS Complete Count Committee - Kristine Wehrkamp, Executive Director Robbinsdale Area Schools attended meeting. o Goal is to work with schools as much as possible. o Information tables at: enrollment center, sporting events, parent teacher conferences o Send flyer out via Peach Jar, internal school flyer system. o Will provide information to parent groups. o Flyer in Kid Pack bags. Kristine will contact Jill Kaufman. - Mayor Hemken going to 4 classes at CLC with another census worker. - Rotary Meeting on February 15, 2020, Census employee is attending the meeting and doing a presentation. - Working on printing the flyer to be placed in water bill. - Post census information on Next Door site, city Facebook pages. - Yard signs: o Chair Meyer will bring to March meeting and they will be distributed. o Need permission to place sign and note when you will return to pick it up again. Keep a list of where signs were placed - Multifamily Access Ordinance: o Vote at city council meeting on February 24, 2020. - Information Meetings: o Mayor Hemken and Kathy from LOWV went to Broadway Village. o Mayor Hemken is setting up meetings at Anthony James, St. Therese, Chandon Court (2/25), North Park Plaza, Northridge (2/20), Woodbridge, Compass Pointe, Ambassador Nursing Home, The Lodge (3/5), Ironwood (posters are up), Presidential Estates o Divided up the apartment list among Commissioners. Call and ask for Activities Director to set up meetings. o Look at community rooms to use for future Sweet Blackberry events while at the facilities. Human Rights Commission Membership - HRC open positions are posted online and being advertised. - Talk about membership when out for Complete Count Committee events. NEW BUSINESS None COMMUNICATION & INFORMATION SHARING Police Awards Ceremony - January 27, 2020 at 7:00 pm in City Council Chambers. Ceremony was well attended. - Discussed the HRC presenting a community award in the future. DARE Graduation Ceremony - March 20, 2020 at 2:00 pm at RSI. MN Department of Human Rights Digital Sessions - February 5, 5:00 – 6:00 pm or February 6, 12:00 – 1:00 pm, session content will be the same. - Chair Meyer and Commissioner Curry to attend. - Policy proposals will be discussed. Legislative Town Hall Meeting - February 22, 2020 at 9:30 am at city hall. Representatives Mike Freiberg and Lyndon Carlson and Senator Ann Rest will discuss 2020 session with constituents. Next Meeting - The next meeting is Tuesday, March 7, 2020 at 7:00 pm. (Meeting was moved from 1st Monday to accommodate schedules.) - April meeting will be Wednesday, April 8h at 7:00 pm. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Rehnke moved to end to the meeting, seconded by Commissioner Curry. All voted in favor.
