Mr. Harlyn Larson, Village Manager
Honorable Mayor and Village Council
7701 42nd AVeflue North
JI,jJmeapolis, Minnesota 55427
Dear Mr. Larson, }I.ayor Honaq and Village COUl1cil:
Following is So poem which explains why Recreation must be &~ important Ian of
our 11 ves :
WHY RECREATION?
HIf you keep your f!OSe to the grindstone rough
And hold it down there long enough;
In time you 111 s:ay there t s no such thing
As brooks that babble &l'Ld birds that sing.
These three things your world compose ..
Just you, the stone, and./your bloody noseolt
Modern technology has provided us with one great gift; leisure. And as compared
to other nations, ours has given us many more opportunities for this leisure time.
HOlv~er, leisure is our rubber band with which we can either make or break civili-
zation. We can either improve the quality of liVing or destroy our civilization a
History has~sl'D\\rn that the world progresses or regresses, not so much through wha.t
is done during work, but through 'What is done during leisure. Our cultura.l, moral
and spiritual development is dependent on leisure. Therefore, the wise use of
leisure time is our challenge and this report shows what i~ew Hope Park and Recre-
ation Department is d.oing to meet tha.t ci'.a.llengeo
Sincerely,
~OPE PAR~ RFJ;~EATION DEPARTMmT
